About the artist: Lutken, and his glassblowers developed a technique for blowing glass using steam from wet wood, inserted into the gather of hot glass. I believe the perfection of curve in his designs, and the thickness of the rims, is a result of this technique. The "fried egg" in the middle of the bowl is another typical feature. Lutken (born 1916) lived for glass. He was employed at Holmegaard from 1942 until his death in 1998. His autobiography was called, Glass is Life. The design was very successful and continued to be made for some time. Earlier pieces, like this one, have the year and Lutken's PL monogram.
